Using "Group By Options" in Analytics

Group By Options are different than filters. Filters exclude data from the data set being used for analysis based on selected criteria. Once filtering has been done, Group By Options allow the user to change the way in which the data is presented on the graph. There are two Group By Options:

  • Unit of Measurement
  • Breakdown by Dimension

Unit of Measurement

The first group by option (the left-most button), Unit of Measurement, changes the Y-axis of the graph to display different data measurements over time. Measurements being captured include:
• Number of Incidents
• % Compliance
• Response Time or Turnout Time and Travel Time (depending upon which compliance setting was selected)

The Analytics module defaults to Number of Incidents. When another option is selected, incident data will be displayed on the graph based on the new unit of measurement. For example, if Travel Time is selected, the graph will display the average Travel Time for the date range selected:

Breakdown by Dimension

The second Group By Option allows the user to breakdown data by a specific dimension. The dimensions available mirror the filters available, though selecting a dimension does not exclude data like a filter, but rather displays data based on the selected dimension. The options for selection are:
• Stations
• Incident Types
• Zones
• Population Density
• Zip Codes
• FDID’s
• Response Mode
• Cities
• Shifts
• No Group (removes individual dimensions)

When a dimension is selected, the graph will breakdown into the individual components of that dimension for a deeper look into the data. For example, if ‘Stations’ is selected, the graph will display each individual station on a line chart:

In the example above, the Unit of Measure Average Travel Time was applied and the Dimension of Stations was applied. The graph now shows the average turnout time each year, for each station.
